For whatever reason, there have been a lot of people asking me if cross-training in Greco-Roman Wrestling would be beneficial. I guess the question stems from the fact that there are no holds allowed below the waist in Greco-Roman wrestling. That kills all shots like the double leg take down and many of the controls on the ground.
The upside of not being able to touch the legs for Greco-Roman wrestlers in MMA is that they have an unreal ability to control the upper body (i.e. Randy Couture, Dan Henderson, Jon Jones, Brandon Vera, Matt Lindland, etc…). They also have a more upright posture than other wrestlers which is key in MMA as we saw in the post, How to Do a Suplex.
